The Optimal Bracket for the 2026 Men's Basketball Tournament (March Madness)
Pick #1 Arizona to win it all over #1 Florida.
I’ll cut to the chase - here are my recommended picks for the 2026 men’s March Madness bracket:
Tl;dr:
Pick #1 Arizona out of the West to win it all over #1 Florida out of the South.
For the first time in a few years, the Optimal Bracket isn’t super chalky, or at least not as chalky as usual)! The bracket goes a bit out on a limb with #2 Iowa St. over #1 Michigan in the Midwest and #2 UConn over #1 overall seed Duke in the East. I’m also a bit nervous about #1 Florida getting past #2 Houston in the South in what would effectively be a home game for Houston.
Overall, in my simulations I saw a good amount of variety in the Final Four, with the exception of #1 Arizona and #2 Iowa St. being strong value plays.
Here are all the upsets (at least seed-wise; betting markets may say otherwise) across the bracket:
In the Round of 64:
#9 Iowa over #8 Clemson
#11 VCU over #6 North Carolina
#9 Utah St. over #8 Villanova
#11 NC State / #11 Texas over #6 BYU
In the Round of 32:
#5 St. John’s over #4 Kansas
#5 Vanderbilt over #4 Nebraska
No upsets in the Sweet 16, leading to a full chalk Elite 8
In the Elite 8:
#2 UConn over #1 Duke
#2 Iowa St. over #1 Michigan
No upsets in the Final Four or Championship (#1 Arizona over #1 Florida)
I probably won’t be able to re-run the numbers before Thursday’s tournament kicks off, so expect this is the final bracket from me. Good luck to us all!
